G20 Brief Thoughts (Non-Political)

27 June 2010 at 1:30 pm (#Kanyeshrug, Campaigns, Local Events, News, Politics, Rants, Toronto Life, World Issues, WTF!?) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m not going to sit here and go into what the actual G20 summit is about … I’m gonna say something extremely brief, short, sweet and to the point about what’s been happening in my city of Toronto these past couple of days.

First and foremost: all you idiots that came from far to come and mash up my city need to go back to wherever you came from and mind your own. This shit has gotten out of control. What are you really protesting about? When the first car was set ablaze I said on twitter: “If this unrest continues over the rest of the weekend, how much of it will really be about the G20?” This weekend is just an excuse for SOME people to wreck havoc and cause chaos. GTFO of my city with all that there bullshit. This is embarrassing Toronto. Canadians don’t get down like this. For the ones that do, I’m appalled at the behaviours of the city’s citizens. But at the same time, I’m not surprised either (if that makes any sense).

I’m just happy that so far there have been no major injuries or human casualties because that would just set me over the edge.

In conclusion: here’s a word to the masses that wanna damage Toronto: if you fuck up a Tim Horton’s people will burn you at the stake. Timmy’s is a national treasure. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, SON!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

42 years ago on this day, the world lost a GREAT man. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and killed for trying to guide humanity to a better understanding of each other. Let us never forget his legacy. Let us never forget his dream.

Rest In Eternal Peace

We Are the World 2010

If this wasn’t for Haiti, I wouldn’t be able to support this project. This is horrible. What was QJ thinking!? This song is just not good. There is too much crap in it. I’m sorry. The parts that were good – were REALLY good. For example: Mary J Blige, Pink, Celine, Mary Mary and Jennifer Hudson all shone amidst the bullshit of the autotune, Lil Wayne’s presence, the rappers being isolated, Jamie’s out of place Ray Charles impersonation, and Toni Braxton’s desperate glances at the camera. This is just ridiculous. I feel they tried too hard to make it “current” and “cool”. All they really needed to do was focus on updating a meaningful classic without all the extra bs.

Their hearts were in the right place. But like a person wrote in a forum, they were out of their minds when this was recorded.

I WILL say, keeping Michael Jackson’s parts in there was a good, if not obvious, move.

It’s The End Of the World As We Know It …

20 January 2010 at 8:02 pm (Life, Lyrics & Quotes, World Issues) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

… and I FEEL FINE!

Why? Because I’m living in the now. I have too much going on to worry about the future and whether I’ll be alive to see it. I HOPE I will but I’m not harping on it.

This post is gonna get me in a lil hot water with people. Friends, especially. But I would rather post my thoughts here than discuss religion with them. One thing I NEVER do is bring religion or politics into my relationships. I’m just asking for trouble that way.

People are saying with all that’s going on in South America (for example, the earthquakes and whatnot) that the end of the world is coming. Prepare yourself and get to know God because Judgement Day is coming. And sooner than we think. I don’t know if I believe all that. I believe in science as WELL as God and all the earthquakes (and crazy weather) ALL point to GLOBAL WARMING. People cried the world was ending when the tsunami hit South-East Asia and the world saw the deadliest earthquake erupt beneath the Indian Ocean! We’re STILL here! Cold and snow in Miami, Spring-like days in Canada, chilly evenings in the south ….? It’s all due to the damage we’ve done to our planet over the last century. This has, in MY opinion, nothing to do with the second coming of Jesus. Do I believe He will return? OF COURSE. Do I think he’ll do it in such a destructive way? Not entirely. I don’t think Jesus will come back to judge the living and dead by first killing thousands upon thousands of innocent women, children and men. I know my God is a loving God and I know that everything happens for a reason. The end of the world, as I so choose to believe it and if God can control that – will come from the natural deviation of our planet and NOT at his hand by causing all this tragedy. Again, this is my opinion. You don’t have to like it nor agree (though if you DO, PLEASE let me hear your rebuttals).

People want to say, OH BUT ITS IN THE BIBLE. Hold a seat. The Bible is a book written by MAN. It wasn’t written by God himself. How could it be? It was a prophecy written by SOMEONE who claimed to be able to talk to God – that of which has never been proven. THEN, add in all the years and times its been translated and into HOW many different languages and who KNOWS what the ORIGINAL words and script were. Revelations is a great part of the Bible but … it’s not entirely HARD  to fathom that in SO many years the world would end. Especially if the person writing it had an inkling that over time a planet could indeed suffer the damage of its inhabitants. I could have a hunch about what the year 4000 will look like and maybe I’ll be spot on or maybe I won’t. The Bible COULD very well be a coincidence. The Bible doesn’t determine my faith. My relationship with God does. I don’t take the Bible literally just as I wouldn’t take The DaVinci Code or The Celestine Prophecy literally. These are BOOKS. Nothing more. Your relationship with God and your love for Him should determine your faith. Stop living in fear of retribution from living a less than perfect life. Stop thinking that in 5 years from now; 5 weeks from now; 5 days from now the world will end and you wouldn’t have made your peace. Life is too short for all that nonsense.

Live in the NOW and rejoice in the life you are living TODAY. Be blessed you have air to breathe and the world to wake up to everyday. Live your life as righteously as you can. If you believe in God, pray when things are good AND bad. THIS is what will get you to that bridge. And when the time comes for the world to end, we’ll all cross it together. Stop preaching and warning people and telling people to do this and that when it comes to God, religion or church. Worry about yourself. Leave people alone to decide their own course of action.

And never, ever discount science. If there is a religious explanation then there very well could be a scientific one as well. There is always room for both. It doesn’t HAVE to be one or the other. I’ll leave you with this quote:

The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.

So Many Donation Rumours

13 January 2010 at 8:34 pm (Campaigns, Life, News, World Issues) (, , , , , , , )

Let me try to put some currently to rest:

1. UPS Shipping Anything Under 50lbs For FREE

I called UPS myself about 2 hours ago and was told NOTHING like this was in place for Canada OR the U.S and just a few minutes ago this statement was put up on UPS’s blog:

The earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday delivered a devastating blow to the island nation. Disasters such as this remind us of our own vulnerability to the forces of nature. At UPS, we’re committed to delivering aid and supporting relief efforts around the world. Through The UPS Foundation, we’re giving $1 million (USD) in cash and in-kind aid to help the people of Haiti.

We’ve also noticed a surge of interest and concern online as people search for ways to help. On Twitter, some have mistakenly shared a rumor that UPS will ship for free any package under 50 lbs. to Haiti. The destruction of roads and communications networks means our own shipping services to Haiti are on hold. Rather than offer free shipping to individual donors, UPS directs its aid through relief agencies. (read more …)

2. Texting Donations – Salvation Army (via Bell Mobility or Rogers)

There are NO formal means set in place for Canadians to donate to Haiti via TEXT MESSAGING. The Salvation army states you can do so here: http://www.salvationarmy.ca/textdonations/ however if you read the very first question it says quite clearly what the money will be used for:

Donations will help The Salvation Army serve more than 1.5 million Canadians each year as the largest non-governmental direct provider of social service. (read more …)

The same can be said for other companies as well.

3. Texting Donations As A Whole (Canadians ONLY)

Canadians looking to donate money to Red Cross disaster relief in Haiti through text messages may want to try other options.

Twitter users are reporting that text-donation campaigns on the social-media website are not applicable in Canada.

One option, where texting the word “Haiti” to 90999 results in a $10 donation to the Red Cross and a matching fee being applied to the user’s cellphone bill, only works in the United States, users reported. (read more…)

At this point it’s safe to say that RIGHT now, the only organizations you should trust sending your money to are YELE (Wyclef Jean’s Organization) and The Red Cross.

PLEASE click both names to go to their respective websites! Thank you.

The Tragedy In Haiti

13 January 2010 at 7:57 pm (Campaigns, Family, Life, News, World Issues) (, , , , , , , , , )

I can’t stress the need for donations, prayers and love that need to be sent from your heart directly to Haiti.

I just saw some extremely graphic pictures of the devastation and suffering going on over there and my heart is breaking. I saw a picture of children’s lifeless bodies being laid out in a truck bed. I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t prepared. I felt my heart stop. The devastation is completely widespread and I feel helpless. I would love to send money over but I’m just not in the financial position to do so. All I can do is pray and send what little I CAN afford. What I AM planning on doing, however, is sending old and unused clothing to the Red Cross in hopes that somehow that can help. Just now in typing this post, I visited their website: http://www.redcross.ca/article.asp?id=000005&tid=003 to see where my local Red Cross is and came across this:

In-kind donations of food, clothing and other items, while well intentioned, are not the best way to help those in need. There are tremendous processing and transportation costs involved in shipping these items to beneficiaries. Local purchases of food and clothing are more culturally appropriate and effective. Red Cross supplies can be purchased in the immediate area, thereby reducing transportation costs. Cash transfers to the affected region provide the optimum flexibility to our Red Cross colleagues so they can meet the most urgent needs.

Now, I know its not the best way but for ME, it’s the only way. I can’t do much more and I refuse to stand idly by. They may not get the clothes right away but I pray in Jesus’ name they get them eventually. I will STILL be sending my clothes to the Red Cross.

If you are unable to send money, clothes or food then PRAY. Prayer is a powerful thing and I know this first hand. I know how effective prayer can be.

On Twitter, I’ve seen some incredibly fucked up tweets that are hateful and racist. There is NO reason to make jokes or make light of the tragedy human life is facing overseas. I don’t care what you beliefs are, a life is a life and NO life is less deserving of our sympathies and prayers JUST because they aren’t the same colour as you. Grow up.

With that small rant being said, please try and do your part. It will make a world of difference.

My love and prayers are with you Haiti. God speed.
