The media mogul Oprah Winfrey will end her iconic daytime talk show, “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” in 2011 as she prepares to start a cable channel of her own.
A spokeswoman for Ms. Winfrey’s production company confirmed Thursday evening that Ms. Winfrey will make the announcement on her program on Friday. The plans were first reported by WABC, the ABC station in New York City.
“The sun will set on the Oprah show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011,” WABC said.
In a statement, CBS Television Distribution said, “We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well.”
Ms. Winfrey, 55, informed her talk show staff of the decision on Thursday afternoon. The news immediately rattled the television world, which had expected that she would make a decision about the fate of her program by the end of the year.
After her broadcast talk show winds down, Ms. Winfrey will concentrate exclusively on her forthcoming cable channel, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. The channel is a joint venture between her production company and Discovery Communications. Getting the channel off the ground has proved challenging amid management turnover and an uncertain advertising climate.
OWN will have its premiere on cable in January 2011, according to a person with knowledge of Ms. Winfrey’s decision who insisted on anonymity. That timeline will theoretically give Ms. Winfrey about nine months to promote her cable channel on her existing show.
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” remains the most successful talk show in syndication, reaching about seven million viewers a day. It has been vital to the success of ABC, whose local station group has been the primary home of the show since it started in syndication in 1986.

Oprah Winfrey To End Her Show

Rihanna: Her Story
Via: What Women Want
I’m sorry y’all. I don’t condone what happened to her and I am DEFINITELY NOT for violence against women but it’s not lost on me that this was done in time to coincide with her album release as well as after her single just dropped.
I think to take this serious situation and use it for press and ratings and album sales is wrong. I know she was probably unable to talk about the case while it was still in the courts but why didnt she tell her story after he was sentenced (if thats what you want to call what he got *rolls eyes*) ???
I’m disappointed in Rihanna but I’m not surprised, either.

Also read this in the Metro. But this was a WELL written piece. I just wanted to share it
Meet Luke Conley. He’s a great catch: He earns six figures as a real estate investor and is a homeowner at just age 26. He’s ready to settle down — with one of 20 women on Fox’s new reality show More to Love.
Luke sizes up at 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds. Luke’s favourite activities? Eating (cue close-ups of him eating cheeseburgers). Luke’s favourite food? “Anything thick and juicy.” His gaggle of prospective mates are also chubby — but no matter, because as he said during last Tuesday’s premiere, he’s attracted to “voluptuous, curvy women.”
Over seven weeks, the women engage in the usual backstabbing, crying and hot-tubbing befitting reality TV, until a victor emerges with a ring on her finger.
More to Love is touted as the real woman’s dating show — the average American woman weighs 162.9 pounds, stands 5-foot-4 and wears size 14, which isn’t too far off from the contestants — but there’s no shortage of ways to remind viewers these women are fat.
Contestant Danielle dejectedly describes her dating history: “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.”
Their heights and weights are displayed on-screen. One 30-year-old confesses she’s never been on a date. They weep endlessly over rejections, exes embarrassed to be seen with them or how they will be alone forever — unless they snag their prize.
Like most dating shows, it sells the notion that the man makes the woman, and without them, their lives are “less-than” blank slates, upon which men can impress their positive influence.
Sound like a more humiliating version of The Bachelor? Then it’s no surprise More to Love was created by The Bachelor’s Mike Fleiss. Hell, when news of the show first emerged in May, the working title was The Fatchelor.
Fleiss admitted to Business Week that reality TV pushes style over substance. “People like to see the emotional roller-coaster of romance more than the completed romance,” he said.
There’s no shortage of style here: The camera unflatteringly catches Danielle from behind as she heaves herself out of a pool. The contestants mingle with Mr. Handsome, food and drink in hand. “I love me a stick of meat!” says Bonnie, wrapping her mouth around a kebab.
What are fat people but a curiosity? They’re clearly not good enough for regular, non-fat dating shows, otherwise we’d see them outside this arena for mockery.
More to Love may purport to show real women as sexy, desirable beings, but producers turned them into objects as one-dimensional as the Barbies they’re not.
SYTYCD Voters: A Message
I dont even know why this is bothering me enough to make a post. I havent really watched this season nor do I have any emotions or cares truly invested in the show but I do enjoy watching past performances on youtube in my downtime. I’m noticing a trend in reading the comments. I’m sure they’ve been the same every season that has come and gone but I never see them because I tend to discuss shows such as these with a small group of people. Anyway, the point I’m trying to get to is that … people are always talking about so and so shouldnt have went home over so and so because so and so is better than so and so.
Dont you people understand that once the voting is solely in America’s hands it becomes America’s FAVOURITE dancer and not necessarily the BEST dancer? The best dancer doesn’t always win; this has been proven countless times. Why? Because not every American voting is an expert on the subject of dance AND there are so many different genres that one couldn’t possibly pinpoint the technique of EVERY single dance. SO, these voters will vote based on who has left an impression. Like Debbie Allen said on a recent show: people are going to vote for who is still on their mind when the show is over and they’ve got to pick up that phone. What’s so hard to understand?
Sure, we all have a right to voice our displeasure and opinions but …. if you UNDERSTAND this concept then you are less likely to “be upset” or “cry” over people going home. And yes, people have admitted to actually CRYING over dancers being sent home. LOL.
Anyway, these dancers are there for THEMSELVES. To get ahead in this business and further their career and also beacuse they LOVE to dance. THEY are the only ones that should be sad and crying. Us viewers, they are there for OUR entertainment. It’s reality TV for crying out loud. Some dancers take their leaving the show better than y’all. That’s crazy
Just remember that its ONLY TV people. And while it may be THEIR reality, it’s not your own.
Melissa & Ade: This Woman’s Work
I cried watching this because I lost my grandmother to lung cancer in 2008. I miss her dearly and this piece moved me to tears. It was beautifully danced and the message was so very important. Thank you Tyce, Melissa and Ade. I have never been SO moved by a dance routine as I was with this one.
Authors Note: I have reposted numerous links week after week but they always get taken down. So, I’m sorry – I’m going to just leave the post as is.
LOL!
I die everytime I see this commercial – lmfao.
I’m Live To Air!
So, Thursday night I was online and happened to check out my homie Chi City’s BlogTV channel. You guys already know how I feel about him based on previous blog entry’s. Anyway, his show airs every Thursday but this one was “special” because he was going to do a show complete with freeze pops, alcohol AND strippers. LMAO! The shit was a disaster but it was PURE COMEDY. In only a way Chi could, he brought his viewers/fans the best few hours of internet TV imaginable. Anyhow, towards the end I had met a lot of cool people in the chat room (it was a good environment to just laugh and catch jokes with many people) and I ended up going back the next night – although Chi wasn’t airing a show – he was just testing his mic – it turned INTO a show, if you will. I’m going off on a tangent now but basically what ended up happening is based on my name and the shoutout and love Chi gave me, I garnered a small and humbling following and a lot of those people were telling me they wanted to see me on a show, so I thought about it and then was like “nah nah!” But the more I talked to people over the course of a couple days, the more I thought, hey this could be fun. So, I went on ahead and tested out my camera and went online to see what happened. No word of a lie I ended up being on for about 6 hours; it may have even been more. I was off and on at times, and my camera and mic acted up quite a bit but I feel like it was due to me having too many windows open. In any case, I LOVED it. Sure, there was a few haters that came through, but the shit talking was minimal and pretty lame (your momma jokes and calling me ugly *rolls eyes*). Shit like that is completely expected but the great thing about BlogTV is that you are in complete control with being able to kick and even ban people off your channel, so if they become too much of a nuisance they can get booted. I find them entertaining though, even if its only for a few minutes.
Towards the end of the “show” Chi actually came on GChat and we spoke briefly and I asked him, if this took off for me, would he mind/care that I’m using the name I am (since it’s a play off HIS name) and he said that was completely fine and he even came through to show love and subscribe.
While he was there, he just up and said in the chat that he bought me a PRO account. Completely unprovoked, he clicked on “give the gift of PRO” and bought me the PRO account for an entire year. There are quite a few perks to having a PRO account (including recording longer segments – 30 minutes) so I was not only grateful but happy he did that for me! He really didn’t have to. But then again, what more can one expect from the realest dude on the ‘net?
He’s a great person y’all. And I thought highly of him LONG before he did that for me. But I can’t say enough good things about him. That’s my homie right there ♥.
Anyway, enough rambling. I don’t plan on doing a scheduled show right now. I don’t have enough viewers as yet but I’ll probably just broadcast from time to time when the desire to hits me and when it does I’ll post the widget on the blog so y’all will know. For now, though, check out the page ==> here <== and let me know what you think. Comments are welcome, subscribe, rate. Do whatever. If you want to chat during live shows you will need to create an account if you don’t already have one as I do not allow “guests” to contribute to my channel. Please take note that just because my name has a certain WORD in it doesn’t mean my channel will have me doing anything slack. I signed up this account NOT thinking I’d actually be broadcasting on it – it was simply an account that would allow me to talk and comment when Chi was airing live but … now it’s become more than that, so enjoy the channel and have fun!
