Why, Solange, Why?

Solange has snapped. I mean … maybe line it up? OR, how about not cutting it THAT short so as to have your head looking so … patchy-patchy ….

Site To Check For: You Know You Dead Azz Wrong

Slightly mean spirited but funny. I say slightly because at the end of the day, if people weren’t dressed outrageously there would be no need to poke fun. It’s not like these people are fashion newbies. They are fashion loonies. Ugh. I mean when you look at all the ish people are wearing you really have to wonder what they were thinking.

BET Awards ‘09

Crap awards. Crap crap crap.

BET is nothing more than celebrities getting together to act an ass. Truly. I’m so disappointed with the show. My write up will be short. The only reason I watched last night was because I ASSUMED BET would do a decent tribute to Michael Jackson. I went in with an open mind because I KNEW they only had a couple days to completely re-do the show but I also knew there would be a lot of “coonery” on there as well. I love to be right but in this case I would’ve LOVED to be wrong for a change. BET would’ve been better off doing a nice montage of MJ vids and clips and then PROPERLY preparing a seperate tribute show in a couple weeks. Year after year the BET Awards look more and more amateurish and disorganized. It’s sad. BET lost AGAIN last night and I was immediately reminded of why I stopped watching ages ago: I can’t participate in bullshit.

I just want to say that with all the cussing going on, I don’t even blame the “censor dude” … people need to understand that LIVE TO AIR MEANS JUST THAT. DUH! There is a damn delay when censoring shit. I believe its anywhere from 7-10 seconds. So how about we don’t blame the “censor dude”? How about we blame the artists that can’t choose better songs to perform or can’t find ways to omit the swear words and phrases from their lyrics? How about that? Yea.

I don’t want to get into the night’s hot messes because I’ll be here all day as there were MANY. But I DO want to speak briefly on MY favourite highlights of the show. The nights’ saviours were Jamie Foxx – who did tasteful yet funny jokes surrounding Michael’s legacy (lol @ the pants being tight) and closing the show with a beautiful duet with Neyo. The O’Jays (shout out to Eddie Levert – he had me laughin and shit!) were classy and still on point. The young bucks need to take a lesson. I just looooved Soulja Boy’s blank stare. Idiot. A strong (in an all things considered sense) Janet Jackson made my eyes FINALLY spill tears. I’ve been saddened and had a tight chest and throat all throughout this time of Michael’s passing but tears didn’t drop from my eyes until I saw and heard Janet speak. It makes you wonder if she’s Joe Jackson’s daughter. I mean, she looks more torn up about her brothers passing then he does about outliving his son. I can’t STAND Joe Jackson. Anyway, moving on: Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Gorgeous Keri Hilson, Monica and Keyshia Cole, Taraji & Tyrese (before Ving Rhames’ bitch ass), Maxwell (oooooh Maxwell) were all high points. And much love to Idris Elba, the first star to actually NOT “thank” Joe Jackson but rather acknowledge the matriarch of the Jackson clan, Katherine. WORD UP for Drake reppin’ Toronto!!! I didn’t know about his torn ACL until about half way through their set … I’m sad to know he’s injured but at the same time I’m happy for it because I would NOT have been ready to see him cavorting and galavanting around onstage with the likes of Lil Wayne and ‘em.

All in all the awards did nothing for me and I feel like I was cheated in getting to see a “Michael Jackson Tribute”. Again, I DO understand the lack of time but still, think things through a little better, why don’t ya. And after so many years, the disorganization and lack of control is astounding.

I’ll wait for the Grammy’s or the AMA’s. I’m sure their tributes will be more classy. And it WON’T be because they had more time.

New Video Drop

So let’s start things off with one of my few favourite winners of American Idol. Jordin Sparks is a beautiful girl with a great voice. She’s also very smart and well spoken. Her interviews always seem so personable and I’m liable to believe she’s a regular ol’ down to earth girl. I think she’s great. Battlefield comes from her new album of the same name – which is in stores July 21. I really like the video. I think she looks amazing and the song is quite pretty.

EY! It’s my boys of one of the dopest hip hop groups out! Tanya Morgan brings something new and fresh yet simplistic to So Damn Down. Brooklynati is a dope ass album, people. If you don’t have it. GET IT.

I’m not a super huge fan of Yung LA but something about him always makes me check for his music and videos. I like his style but I hate the trend he’s set with the mohawk. Now any and everybody has one and it doesn’t suit everybody – ugh. That isn’t what I’m here to speak on though … I love this video. It was directed by über-cool and gorgeous director Va$htie and its colourful, fly and fresh. His album, Futuristic Leland, is in stores, Aug 18. I’m gonna elroy you …. ready?

Oh boy. Ok. Ugh. Legends are legends for a reason and I loooove me some MC Lyte but I gotta keep it real here. I love that she’s paying homage to all the West Indians out there but I could REALLY do without the wack accent. Seriously. It, for me, gets in the way of what she’s trying to get across. She DOES look bangin’ for her age though. No denying that.

So, almost everytime (in the last week, anyway) that I’ve signed into Facebook, I see another status that says: “She’s phoney, she’s fake, that’s the kinda people I hate“. I hate Swizz & Jada for this. I do. Really and truly. But thats not to say this isn’t a great song or even doper vid. I believe you can do without Da Juiceman but whatever, thats only my opinion. The Last Kiss is in stores now.

SMH! Man, so Diddy’s new ting of the moment protegée, Cassie has released a new single “Must Be Love” and it’s not terrible but it’s just OK to me. I don’t find her very talented. She’s amazing to look at though! Very beautiful girl, even with half a head of hair. This video is just super cheesy to me. Her on one side of a wall, Diddy shaking his head on the other (take that, take that) pretending to be soooo in pain over love. Please be over already. There isn’t a release date for Electro Love yet but you can be assured Corprah won’t be copping.

*** For some reason it won’t let me play this video on my blog (and I’ve checked youtube and other sites to no avail but here is the link to it: http://videos.onsmash.com/v/7Fv7pwVsJriGffeR should you want to see the hideousness that is Must Be Love ***

I Have A New Addiction …

… and for once it isn’t a food item. LOL. I am completely addicted to bermuda shorts. Solids, pattens, plaid, checkered, pin striped. I don’t much care what the style so long as the fit and length are good, I’m happy as a pig in shit. My legs look absolutely amazing in them when I pair them with heels or stilettos and I love wearing my flats or flip flops with them, too. Comfort and versatility has always been key with me and fashion. The older I get the more I realize the short shorts look just isn’t for me. I still wear mid-thigh shorts but not as much. I think these knee lengths are not only age appropriate but also quite comfortable. The only thing is that  I’m short, 5′2″. If I was taller, I think they’d flatter me more but it’s all good. I still love them.

How can anyone not love these things? Argh!

Beyonce On April Cover Of Vogue Magazine

beyonce-vogue-april-2009-11

Looking as gorgeous as she wants to be, Beyonce Knowles is featured on the cover of the April issue of Vogue magazine.  I think it’s a great move by Vogue seeing as how this is their annual “shape issue” and we all know Beyonce has that enviable shape. Beyonce opens up about weight and body issues in this month’s magazine. Vogue seems to be heading into new territory on two levels. One being this is the 2nd black woman to be featured on its cover in as many months and second, of course, putting a woman with a “normal” body shape on it’s cover. Kudos on both fronts! And, April is shaping up to be a good month for B. Her new movie, Obsessed, starring Idris Elba and Ali Larter hits theatres April 24.
